The Wonderful Internet

In this age of instant communication and the internet new starting witches, wizards, druids and pagans have a resource open to them that some of us could have only dreamed of when we took our first steps on our paths. The knowledge that is available now through internet sources, recommended reading lists, online schools and forums is immense and even for an adept can be quite an undertaking to wade through. It has really gone the gambit from finding the odd book in the library or the bookstore to finding thousands of points of views and traditions at one’s very fingertips.

So how can one separate the wheat from the chaff? How can one tell what is helpful and what is harmful or misinformation? It can sometimes be difficult to do so, especially when you are looking from one tradition to the next which are both completely valid but completely different. The most important tool you can have is a strong sense of self and knowing how to tell what resonates with your own being.

The most important thing to do with anything gleamed from the internet, if it seems to fit with your personal beliefs, is to check its sources. Most internet sites that are based on a tradition or specific order may not have source materials as the order or tradition is the source, so when viewing their pages it is important to just see if your views work together. If you learn to take the things read on the internet with a grain of salt and to always remember to check you resources the internet is an invaluable tool but if you take the first thing you surf into as “this is what all pagans think” or “now I know everything I need to” you are not only doing yourself a disservice but throwing out everything all the leaders the pagan movements have worked so hard to bring to the forefront.
